A noisy bed is no good at all. It can be an irritating experience that ultimately keeps you up all night. If you're trying to figure out how to fix a squeaky bed frame, take a look at these tips:

- Determine the Location of Your Squeak.
Your squeak may be coming from the headboard, footboard, or the bed frame itself. To identify the location of the noise, enlist the help of a friend, and have them gently and slowly move across your bed. As they do, listen closely to find the culprit. Joints and corners are regular offenders of squeaky beds, so you will want to pay close attention when your friend nears these points.
- Double-Check by Pushing the Footboard.
After your friend has crawled across your bed, go to the footboard, and gently push your bed back and forth. Again, keep your ears open for the joints and corners which may be causing the most noise damage.
- Test the Components.
Place the mattress and box spring flat on the floor, and slowly crawl across each of them. You may find the problem is actually not your bed frame at all. If you discover that the squeak is coming from your box spring, a little lubrication (like WD-40) should do the trick.
If Your Bed Frame Is the Culprit
- Tighten the Metal Fasteners.
Bolts can easily come loose over time. Before you disassemble your frame, make sure the bolts that hold it together are tightly in their spots.
- Disassemble Your Bed Frame.
If tightening the bolts didn't do the trick, you may need to take your frame apart so you can coat the components with wax or grease. As long as your frame is not an older wooden frame, you should be able to disassemble your frame fairly easily. Old wooden frames don't usually afford you this ability, however, so be mindful of this limitation before you begin taking things apart.
- Center Your Mattress and Box Spring.
When your bed frame is reassembled, properly center your mattress and box spring to avoid uneven wear.
