How to Choose the Best Sheets

If you want to sleep comfortably, one thing that is a must is the right sheets. Choosing the best sheets really isn’t all that difficult when you keep these things in mind.

Material
Cotton is by far the most popular material when it comes to sheets because of its softness and breathability. Even so, not all cotton is the same, so to get the best sheets, look for an Egyptian cotton blend, which is considered the “gold standard” in the industry. Another material that is becoming increasingly popular is bamboo. When blended with cotton, bamboo is lightweight and cool, making it perfect for anyone who suffers from night sweats.

So-called “t-shirt” sheets are known to be very comfortable; however, their soft knit makes them prone to slipping and sliding. While they may feel nice to begin with, you could have difficulty sleeping through the night with them if you toss and turn heavily.

Satin sheets may look attractive; however, you might not find them comfortable to sleep with. The reason is that they tend to hold in a great deal of heat, which means they may be too warm for your liking.

Thread Count
Many people often think the best sheets must have a higher thread count.  Put simply, thread count refers to the number of threads found in one square inch of fabric. It has little effect on the way sheets feel against your skin. In fact, sheets with a high thread count may actually feel stiffer than those with a lower thread count.

Choosing sheets with the right thread count is a delicate balance between comfort and durability. If you plan to change your sheets more often than normal, ones with a thread count of 800 or 1,000 might be ideal. Most people find they can get by with sheets containing a thread count of around 450 just fine.

Fit
Mattresses these days are often deeper than in years past, which means that standard-sized sheets may not fit. Likewise, if you have a twin bed that is longer than normal, or sleep in a California king, you may also require special sheets to ensure they stay put all night.

When it comes to the best sheets, there is no one set that is ideal. Instead, the perfect set of sheets are largely a matter of personal preference that will vary based upon a number of factors.
