There are no hard and fast rules that determine when you should change your pillow or get a new mattress, but there are some signs to help you make that decision. Pillows are different than mattresses and have different determinations.

Here are a few tests you can do to help you decide whether or not it's time to get a new pillow.

The pillow doesn't hold its form

If you have a non-foam pillow, fold it in half. If it doesn't spring back to its flat form, it may be time to get a new one.

The pillow is stained

Stains can break a pillow down over time. Once they are widespread and visible, you may want to get a new pillow.

Morning aches and pains

If you wake up in the morning with sore shoulders or a crick in your neck, you pillow is likely to blame. Get a new one that will support you.
